Taco Tuesday: Trejo style

Taco Tuesday: Trejo style

A couple of weeks ago I put together a Hawaiian dinner party for two. I’ve been doing a little themed dinner party for my partner and me each week to have a little something fun and festive to look forward to during COVID restrictions. Today I’m sharing how to put together an easy taco night with a fun twist.

I have a bit of an obsession with celebrity cookbooks. One of my newest acquisitions is Trejo’s Tacos. This cookbook features recipes from Danny Trejo who in addition to acting has a chain of taco and donut restaurants in LA. Here is everything you need to host your own Trejo taco party.

  1. Food: I love the way the Trejo’s Tacos cookbook is laid out. There are base recipes for salsas and fillings. Each filling section is broken up by recipe variants: tacos, burritos, etc. I opted with Trejo’s Grilled Chicken taco recipe and served with the recommended salsa verde. I also made some black beans and corn seasoned with Trader Joe’s Chili Lime seasoning.

  2. Beverages: When serving tacos you got to go with beer. I went with Tecate Titanium, but Modelo and Dos Equis are also great options. If you want a good alcohol free option try Jarritos soda.

  3. Dessert: You could go with something traditional like churros or rice pudding. I wanted to do something a little whimsical so I surprised Lou with some Chaco Tacos.

If you want to try your hand at a Trejo Taco Tuesday, pick up Danny’s book and get cooking.
