Live jazz at Terremoto

Going to see live theater and music is one of my favorite things and living in NYC I’m spoiled and have been able to see some incredible performances over the years. Unfortunately with COVID shutdowns entertainment has been one of the hardest industries hit. I know many friends who are waiting for theaters and studios to reopen before they’ll be able to return to work. Going to see live performances is one of the things I’ve missed the past five or so months. Fortunately, as things slowly begin to reopen there are some opportunities to enjoy and support the arts. One of them is the live jazz series at Terremotto Coffee.

I used to work in Chelsea and Terremotto was one of my coffee houses. My favorite drink is their lavender latte called Purple Rain which I recommend enjoying iced with oat milk. They also sell an assortment of delicious pastries. Terremotto is open for takeout at the moment, but if you go on a Saturday between 12-3:30 PM you’ll have the extra treat of enjoying some live jazz in front.

The live jazz set up is wonderful. Social distancing and masks are observed. There is seating out front so you can enjoy your coffee and ham croissant while listening to incredible music. They also have a rotating setup popup restaurant serving food to go if you want to grab something different to eat. July and August have featured one of my favorite performers Benny Benack III. Benny is an incredible trumpet player and jazz renaissance man. I first got to see his talents a couple of years ago at the Carlyle Hotel where he was performing with Isaac Mizrahi. I’ve been a fan ever since. You can support Benny and the other musicians at Terremoto if you go by tipping with cash or digitally. If you are not in NYC you can still enjoy the shows which are streamed live.
