Hi.

Welcome. I document life in NYC and my travels beyond the Big Apple. Thanks for joining me!

Mayfield

Mayfield

I have a group of girlfriends from my old company that I’m still tight with. Even though none of us are working at the same company anymore we’ve managed to maintain our friendships. During the hight of COVID in NYC we had to resort to text chains and Zoom for keeping in touch. Now that things are more stable in NYC we were finally all able to meet for outdoor dining. We chose to have our reunion at Mayfield in Crown Heights.

I first went to Mayfield about a year ago. Lou and I met up with my friends Nate and Tori who live in the neighborhood. Then I got to enjoy the $1 oysters and the impressive list of beers on tap. They carry beers from the real Von Trapp family who settled in Vermont and opened a brewery and inn there. How cool is that?

This visit was very different. Although indoor dining has reopened with limited capacity in NYC, we opted to have a late lunch on their back patio. You can make reservations ahead of time, which is great. They have a brunch menu on the weekend that is served until 4 PM. My friend Anusree ordered the Brioche French Toast which looked amazing. Milisa, Alex, and I were in a more savory mood. Milisa and Alex both opted for their Fried Chicken Sandwich which has a kick thanks to the spicy coleslaw. I had the mushroom ravioli which I was able to order as a half portion. It was delicious, served in a light sage butter sauce, and topped with hen of the woods mushrooms.

Mayfield’s wine options are just as delightful as their draft choices. I had a lovely Chenin Blanc. I would describe their menu as refined rustic. It’s like grown-up comfort food. If you are looking for a nice meal this fall that won’t break the bank, head to Mayfield.
