Best beer shops in NYC
It’s the holiday season. For many that means festive cocktails and expensive bottles of wine. In our house, though it means Christmas ales. In NYC you can purchase beer at the grocery store while most wines and alcohols are sold at separate liquor shops. However, if you are looking for hard to find imports or beers from microbreweries you may want to consider stocking your fridge from one of the many specialty beer stores in the city. Here are a few of my favorites.
Astoria Bier and Cheese: This shop also has an outdoor dining option if you’d like to enjoy some beer and charcuterie on the spot. They do a great job of mixing up their inventory as the seasons change. When we visited the store at the peak of autumn they had a lot of lesser-known ciders and pumpkin ales to pick from.
Beer Town This beer shop in Ozone Park has been our go-to during the pandemic. They deliver through the Drizly app but I love going to the store to create my own six-pack. They have a loyalty program for frequent customers. They have an impressive collection of Belgian style beers.
Good Beer I seem to find an excuse to meander to this store whenever I’m in the East Village. They have a great selection of bottles and cans, but they also have a rotating list of beers on tap. You can purchase a growler and refill it when you visit.
TapRm: This Bushwick store delivers. All of their beers have been refrigerated so make sure you have room in your fridge before you place an order. You can order by the single can or bottle, 4-packs, 6-packs, and 24-packs depending on the beer. We just ordered an assortment of holiday brews to try this season.
Top Hops Beer Shop: I love this tiny store on the Lower East Side. They also have an outpost now in the Essex Street Market. You should check out their site to see what is on tap at both locations. Aside from growlers, I love that I can get a mason jar to-go if I want a single glass to enjoy when I get home.
