Hi.

Welcome. I document life in NYC and my travels beyond the Big Apple. Thanks for joining me!

Queens County Farm Museum

Queens County Farm Museum

Indoor museums begin reopening in NYC today. I had been dying to go on some sort of cultural trek all summer. Fortunately, some outdoor museums had been able to open earlier so I was able to take my nieces to the Queens County Farm Museum.

The museum is in Floral Park which is a bit of a schelp if you don’t have a car. You can take the E or F to the Kew Gardens/Union Turnpike station and transfer to a bus. We were able to take a Lyft from south Queens and it was about a fifteen-minute ride for us.

The museum farm dates back to the late 17th century. It’s free to visit the museum and you can enjoy visiting the livestock while you are there. Due to COVID many of the buildings are closed to visitors, but you can go to the general gift store which allows one party of guests in at a time. You can purchase gifts, snacks, and feed to give the sheep and goats. My nieces and I got a bucket of hay for $7.00 and headed to the livestock area.

There were alpacas, steers, sheep, chickens, and goats. We had fun feeding the later. The farm usually has pigs but didn’t get any this season. You can also walk around the property to see the plants, vegetation, and honey bees. There is a farm stand near the entrance and exit where you can purchase produce from the farm. I bought some beautiful shishito peppers which I blistered and served as a side dish with dinner that evening.

If you are looking for a free activity to do with the family in Queens I recommend checking out the Queens Farm Museum.
