Winter curls

Prior to 2020 I typically rocked a pixie cut. It’s not that I never grew my hair out, if I was feeling particularly high maintenance I would grow it out to a bob. But, the spring shutdown forced me to embrace my growing tresses and I’ve decided to see how long I’m willing to let them get. I have fine, wavy hair and an aversion to using hair irons and even blow dryers. I’ve found a way to style my hair that fits my no muss no fuss policy. Here’s my routine and products I’ve found helpful. 🐰 signifies it is a cruelty-free product and 🥕 denotes a product uses vegan ingredients.

Shampooing and Conditioning: Honestly if you are going to cut costs anywhere this is the place to do it. Most shampoos and conditioners have similar active ingredients. It’s really about finding a fragrance and texture that you like. I wash and condition my hair every other day and I deep condition on alternative days. Here are some different shampoos and conditioners I’ve used over the years at different price points so you can find something that works for your budget.
Budget-Friendly (Under $5.00) Suave Essentials in Juicy Green Apple🐰, V05 Herbal Escapes in Kiwi Lime, and L’Oreal Elvive Color Vibrancy Protecting

Moderate (Under $10.00) OGX Weightless Hydration in Coconut Water, Dove Complete Moisture 🐰, and Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine

Expensive (Over $10.00) Pureology Hydrate Sheer 🐰🥕, Aveeno Pure Renewal, and Fox Naturals in Peppermint Ginger 🐰🥕

Deep Conditioning: I deep condition every other day. I look for conditioners geared towards curly hair or growing hair long. Some that I would recommend trying are Marc Anthony Grow Long 🐰🥕, Burt’s Bees Repair Shea and Grapefruit Deep Conditioner 🐰🥕, and Fox Naturals Curl Defining Conditioner in Avocado Pomegranate 🐰🥕

Styling Products: Again I am super low maintenance when it comes to my hair. I don’t like messing with a blow dryer so I’ve come to rely on Turbie Twists, they are washable, reusable, they lower your carbon footprint, and they dry your hair quickly. When it comes to styling products I love using a light spray and scrunching my hair in my hands to get some definition to my waves and curls. JessiCurl Awe Inspiring in Island Fantasy 🐰🥕 and It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In 🐰 are both great.

Let me know if you have other suggestions for boosting curls this winter.
