February staycation recap
I mentioned that Lou and I had decided to get a hotel room for last weekend to have a staycation in the city. I have always dreamed of a weekend staycation in NYC. In my fantasy, it was always staying at a luxury hotel like the Carlyle or the Plaza. Many hotels are currently still closed due to the pandemic, but the ones that are open are offering great deals on sites like Hotel Tonight. We were able to book a junior suite at the Gardens Suites by Hotel Affina on the Upper East Side.
We checked in on Friday afternoon and after we got settled we headed downtown to Union Square to take care of an exchange Lou needed to make at Forbidden Planet. We killed sometime before our dinner reservation by browsing the bookshelves at Strand. We rolled ourselves back to our room after an amazing dinner at Butter.
The next morning we took advantage of the kitchen in our suite. Lou made pancakes and Canadian bacon for breakfast. After that, it was a trip to The Met to see the Goya exhibit. We had a wonderful lunch at Sistina, which Lou had never been to before. We rested back at the hotel for a bit before taking a walk through the neighborhood and doing a little shopping at Shakespeare and Co., Modern State, and Nuts Factory. We ordered burgers from Jackson Hole and watched TV in our room.
The next morning we went to Pick a Bagel to grab breakfast before we packed. We later met up with my sister and a friend at Orsay for lunch before heading back home. The world may be a bit different now. We couldn’t go see a show or grab a drink at a lobby bar, but we still had a wonderful and romantic weekend in our beloved NYC.
