Hi.

Welcome. I document life in NYC and my travels beyond the Big Apple. Thanks for joining me!

Industry City

Industry City

In my continuing series on my favorite food halls I wanted to share the one that has been at the top of my list for the past few years — Industry City. I love introducing people to this set of old warehouses in Sunset Park, Brooklyn that have been converted into multi purpose spaces. If you tool around the seven large buildings and intersecting courtyards you’ll find co-working spaces, shopping, and fun options for playing whether you’re a kid or an adult. There is ice skating in the winter and pétanque in the summer. Year round you’ll find arcade games, ax throwing, cocktail bars, and much more.

Today I’m focusing on the food and there is a lot of it. It’s all amazing and you have so many options from the more traditional food hall, Japan Village, and a number of sit down restaurants. Here are some of my favorite places that I recommend checking out:

Burger Joint: Juicy burgers, crispy tots, and classic hot dogs are all on the menu here.

Colson Patisserie: This bakery serves up some of the best croissants in Brooklyn. Their hot chocolate and espresso are perfect to warm you up on a winter’s day.

Frying Pan: In my 20s the Frying Pan in Manhattan was one of my favorite bars in Manhattan. It’s a docked boat on the Hudson that serves pub grub and buckets of bottled beer. The Industry City outpost is like its more low-key sister, which in my 30s I appreciate. They serve up some amazing seafood and beers on draft.

Hometown Barbeque: This is Texas style BBQ meets Brooklyn. The Brisket and the Pastrami Bacon melt in your mouth. You can also check out their OG location in Red Hook.

Japan Village: This is a mini food hall with different booths where you can sample noodles, desserts, and dumplings. There is also an Asian grocery store, Sunrise Market where you can pick up imported foods, beauty products, and more.

One Girl Cookie: I’ve written about this coffee shop in the past. Their cookies and whoopie pies are amazing.

Renegades of Sunset: This is vegan food that even meat-eaters will flip for. Unless you read the menu you wouldn’t know the breakfast sandwich used tofu or the ‘cheezesteak’ used seitan.

Sahadi’s: This Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Grocery store has been a staple in Brooklyn Heights for decades. I’m glad they have a second location in Industry City now and that it has a cafe where you can enjoy spanakopita, baklava, and other delicacies.

Tabel 87: This coal oven pizza is incredible. They have three locations in Brooklyn including their outpost in the Industry City food hall. They also have started selling frozen pies on their website and at grocery stores around the country.

Wakuwaku: Located behind Japan Village this restaurant is almost like Japanese Tapas. It’s great for ordering lots of dishes and sharing with friends. They have standard seating and traditional Japanese seating on the floor. There is also a cocktail lounge in the back of the restaurant.
