Hi.

Welcome. I document life in NYC and my travels beyond the Big Apple. Thanks for joining me!

Monthly roundup: January 2022

Monthly roundup: January 2022

I used to include a weekly round-up on the blog. Since I’m not currently posting five days a week, that cadence doesn’t make sense. For now, I’m moving to a monthly roundup where I’ll share recaps of posts from the past few weeks and recommendations based on what I’ve been doing, reading, watching, and cooking this past month.

This month’s posts

Corn tempura at Wakuwaku located in Industry City

I kicked off this year with a new take on resolutions

This month I focused on food halls in NYC and shared some of my favorites

I toured Chelsea Market for brownies, butchers, and more

I headed to Bushwick to get bras and lingerie at The Rack Shack

Lou and I took our nephew to Industry City for his birthday

I closed the month with a dive into Dekalb Food Hall at City Point

Good eats

Lou and I broke in our new bread maker

Lou and I made umami turkey burgers

I changed up our typical winter veggie sides with this simple roast fennel recipe

We made some quick but delicious meals in our air fryer including honey mustard pork chops and peri-peri chicken wings

I brought a little sweetness to the table with a chocolate peanut butter pie

Lou and I were given a bread maker and we’ve had fun testing it out by making rosemary olive oil bread and a prosciutto and provolone loaf

Active mind and body

We backed Bear Stare Down on Kickstarter and have been enjoying playing this game

It’s been too cold and snowy to get fit outdoors but this 15 minute walk a mile at home video is an easy workout that doesn’t require equipment and I can do it during my lunch break

Lou and I trying out a year of Craftsy a subscription service with arts and crafts video tutorials

The new board game we’re loving is Bear Stare Down

I enjoyed reading about a number of musicals I didn’t even know existed in the book Not Since Carrie

Have some fun

Apple strudel at Schilling

Lou and I loved the series Yellowjackets on Showtime

We’re catching up on movies that came out in the past few months and finally saw The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Last Dual, and Pig

We did get to dine out a few times this month and enjoyed meals at Noodle Box Fusion in Bayside, Raizes in Greenpoint, and Schilling in FiDi
